Cambridge Union Society

The Cambridge Union Society is Cambridge's oldest and largest student society, founded in 1815 as a unique forum for debate and discussion. Today, it remains most famous for attracting eminent guest speakers to lecture and debate on a wide range of issues as well as for its prestige in competitive debating. The Union is a central building in which students of all Cambridge colleges and Anglia Ruskin University can meet and socialise, enjoying the benefits of the Orator bar and brasserie, an extensive library and many other facilities. Recent speakers have included politicians and leaders such as Rt Hon John Bercow, Bernie Sanders and Ban Ki-moon; actors such as Sir Ian McKellen, Dame Judi Dench and Mark Hamil; musicians such as Dua Lipa, Craig David and James Blunt; and a variety of figures from the world of science and technology, such as Professor Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates KBE. The Cambridge Union is the social and intellectual centre of Cambridge student life. Our current termcard can be found here: issuu.com/thecambridgeunion (opens in a new tab)
