Climate Justice (Cambridge)

Cambridge Climate Justice (formerly Cambridge Zero Carbon Society) are a student-led group campaigning for Cambridge University to cut all ties with environmentally destructive industries, with the Fossil Free Research, and Fossil Free Careers campaigns.

On 1st October 2020, following five years of Zero Carbon campaigning, Cambridge University committed to removing all direct and indirect investments in the fossil fuel industry from its £3.5bn endowment fund by 2030. While we will keep working to hold the University to its divestment and net-zero commitments, our focus now extends beyond fossil fuel divestment to the University’s wider links to fossil fuel and extractive industries.

We continue to recognise and push for a narrative that presents climate change not merely as an issue of scientific fact but a crisis that reflects the inequalities of an unfair and exploitative capitalist system, disproportionately affecting already marginalised communities. We seek a decolonial, just transition which has at its heart the rights of indigenous peoples, local communities and justice for the Global South.

We work through a range of direct actions – from open letters to rallies and forms of disruption – and strive to make our campaigns as accessible as possible with different ways to get involved at the various stages of escalation. No campaign experience is expected and we warmly welcome new faces.

To get involved, join us for our open meetings every Thursday at 19:00 in termtime, location shared via Facebook or on our WhatsApp Group (@CambridgeClimateJustice)
