About
Cambridge University Physics Society (CUPS)
Founded in 1942, CUPS is all about the physics you don't do in your degree. Every term we bring world-leading scientists to Cambridge to talk about their work, from cutting-edge research to the history and philosophy of physics. Our talks are open to everyone, whatever you study.
Past speakers include Stephen Hawking, Roger Penrose and Jim Al-Khalili. This year's line-up includes Nobel laureates Geoffrey Hinton (Physics 2024) and Ferenc Krausz (Physics 2023), and Carlo Rovelli giving our Maxwell Talk.
Alongside the talks we run socials, a ballot for dinner with the speaker after each talk, the annual Omega Dinner and a May Week Garden Party. We also sell CUPS stash.
Members get free tickets to our big ticketed talks, and you can join online in a couple of minutes.
